Cayo Coco, CUBA

February 2022

This was our first trip to Cuba and because of a very good price and no hassles with Covid testing, we decided on a last-minute trip.
We knew what to expect from food, but we came because of the beach and the tropical weather which we were dearly craving after so many lockdowns.

What we liked at Memories Caribe Resort Cayo Coco All- Inclusive:
  • The Beach- powdery white sand and clear water (shallow -reminded us of Wasaga Beach,  a beautiful greeny -turquoise, not crowded and you could walk for miles.  Lots of shade too.
  • The beautiful manicured grounds on the resort.  Immaculate and lush with palms and tropical flowering shrubs
  • The room - clean and comfortable
  • The friendly staff
  • The beautiful weather
  • Beans coffee bar and the beautiful cappuccinos -delish!

FOOD and DRINKS

Food was everything we were expecting.  Not great - but we didn't go hungry.   The Buffet looked really good and was nicely set up in stations, but food was cold, bland, and had some weird flavours and textures.  The best bets were the pasta station which was cooked to order, and the grill (for fish and chicken).  But of course the lineups were really bad and slow for these stations.  Drinks at dinners were watered down wine, generic coke that had a medicinal taste and a lemon soda that wasn't too bad to we stuck to that.
Buffet always looked good - but taste; not so much

We had 2 nights at the a la Carte restaurants. We took both nights at the Mediterranean Restaurant as it got the best reviews and we heard terrible things about the Cuban Restaurant from people at the resort.

Valentines Day meal at Mediterranean Restaurant
Surf and Turf for a special valentines meal:  shrimp and pineapple appetizer which was really good, pumpkin soup and a large lobster tail (good)  and a very, very tough piece of beef.  Dessert was a very sweet cake.

Our 2nd meal at the Mediterranean restaurant.  We ordered the Mediterranean fish and were served breaded fish cakes lol.
Mediterranean Fish, Pumpkin Soup, Greek Salad and cake

Snack bar was good and we had these every day:  pizza, fries,  grilled chicken salad sandwich.

Drinks were rather disappointing.  No vodka, no fresh fruit juices, wine watered down.  The frozen rum punches were what we stuck to and they were pretty good ;-)

The Cayo Coco Beach - a very nice way to spend our days in mid-February

There were many Russians at the resort, and on the weekend a lot of locals on day passes.  We don't think the locals have any idea what a lineup is - they would just butt in anywhere!  This was upsetting to many Canadians lol.
Lots of Russians at the Resort

Let's walk to the point!.

In Conclusion:   We had a good time - very relaxing and the weather was great.   Would we come again?  Yes, but only if we had bargain prices.   There are so many other places to see!
