Port Severn Sunset
On July 9th, we set out from Driftwood Cove Marine Resort (Port Severn at Georgian Bay) to head up the Trent Severn Lock System.
Docked at Port Severn |
The beautiful Muskoka Scenery is stunning
Our first lock is Big Chute Marine Railway.
Just missed it! - Carriage taking a boat up the marine railway |

Next was Swift Rapids Lock
We spent the night at Lock 42 Couchiching
The bird condo at Couchiching Lock |
Then off to Orillia and across Lake Simcoe into the Trent Canal where we had very different scenery. We were boating through farms and forests.
We stopped for the night at Portage Lock. Very peaceful and beautiful.
The next lock on our way to Fenelon Falls was the Kirkfield Lift Lock.
Then off through the Canal, Balsam Lake and Cameron Lake to Fenelon Falls
We had afternoon tea at the Fenelon Falls Museum
Weatther was not great. Lots of rain in the forecast so we decided to cut the route short and return to Port Severn.
Here are some photos of the return trip in Kirkfield lift Lock
Packed into a lock - Where we waited for about an hour in the rain. The Kawartha Voyager was coming our way and we had to wait until she got to a place where all the little boats could pass it. Much of the canal was one way only for these large vessels.
We made a bumpy crossing of Lake Simcoe in the rain. When we got to Orillia the sun came out for a bit. We got a very bright double rainbow!
Hey look the end of the rainbow is at Casino Rama (behind Fern Resort on Lake Couchiching)
Spent the night at Port of Orillia with its beautiful new Marina and boating facilities
Then back home and another rainy day.
