On May 3, 2016 Mary and Norm departed Toronto for Munich for a 2 week tour - a one week Rhine Cruise from Cologne to Amsterdam and land tours of Munich, Heidelberg, Weimar, Dresden and Berlin.
Part 1: Pre-Cruise ~ Munich (2 days) and Heidelberg, Germany
We visited Munich in 2013 and really enjoyed this clean beautiful city. It is the most expensive city in Germany to live and is covered with trees and forests. All streets are lined with trees and parks are like mini forests.
We really enjoyed walking around the
Marienplatz.
Here is a live link to the Marienplatz Webcam:

Munich Residence Palace Museum
The Munich Residence originated as a small moated castle built in 1385, and was gradually expanded by the Wittelsbach rulers who used it until 1918 as their residence and seat of government for Bavaria.

Driving to Heidelberg and Bonn:
Very early on our 3rd day we hopped on the bus for our trip through the German country side to get to Heidelberg and Bonn where we would catch our ship.
We passed by the immense plastic bubble of the Munich Allianz Soccer Stadium (here is a wikipedia photo)
All along the way, we saw field after field of yellow canola and many wind turbines.
Heidelberg
We stopped in the beautiful old city of Heidelberg for lunch.
