GERMANY |Rothenburg o d Tauber ; Nuremberg . Wed. And Thurs. September 18-19

After a long drive along the "Romantic Road" from Neuschwanstein Castle  (about a 6 hour drive), we arrived at dusk to the incredibly beautiful and well-preserved medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.    This wonderful Bavarian town looks like it popped right out of story book.

Rothenburg is Germany's best preserved Medieval town.  The name "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" means, in German, "Red fortress above the Tauber". This is so because the town is located on a plateau overlooking the Tauber River. As to the name "Rothenburg", some say it comes from the German words Rot(Red) and Burg (burgh, medieval fortified settlement), referring to the red colour of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river.

We stayed inside the walls of the old town at the Altes Brauhaus  (old Brewery).  The hotel was very quaint and on a little cobblestone side street beside the walls of the city.

From our room we could see a watch tower and a little alley with stairs to get up on the wall.  You can walk on the walls that surround the entire old city.

After Breakfast, we had a 2 hour walking tour of the town.

Snowballs, the specialty of Rothenburg. ( they look better than they taste ;-)

NUREMBERG

On the way to Prague we stopped for lunch in Nuremberg.
We did a drive-by of Hitlers famous rally stadium where he gave his speeches.
We also drove inside the coliseum he had built ( which was unfinished and unused).
